The Nursery

Above All Else Children need to know and feel they are loved, wanted, and appreciated benson

Some tips to help your little Witchens with sleep.
put some of the mother’s hair along with some lavender to add calming into a small dream pillow. Let the child sleep with it at night. try sewing into fun animal shapes of into a heart.
elderberries crushes and boiled down to make a syrup are not only good for a cold but add a teaspoon to some tea like chamomile catnip or peppermint make sure its cool and have child drink before bed.

                                               Magic sleep milk
1 cup organic milk from grass feed cows; or organic almond or coconut milk.
1/4 tea. whole anise seeds
1/8 tea. coco powder
light sprinkle of fennel (like only three seeds)
1/2 Tbsp. Organic maple syrup(the real stuff)
1 tea mint leaves.

warm milk in a small sauce pan, add in herbs and maple syrup.
Strain into cup and drink right before bed. or have your child drink while listening to a bedtime story.

Baby Sleep Pillow
Make an open ended bag of plain cotton fabric measuring roughly 9 by 11 inches.  Stuff lightly with cotton batting (not too full!).  Then combine a handful of dill, a handful of lavender buds, a handful of lemon balm leaves and a pinch of elder flowers and put that in the bag too. Sew up the end of the bag and make a soft flannel pillow case for it.  This may be embroidered with the baby’s name, astrological sign, various protection symbols, and so forth however you wish.  Let the pillow be with the baby only at “sleep time”.
This comes from the wonderful website Gruenwold Cottage which you probably know as the same person who writes the Pooka and Elsie stories.

everyone who lives in the home should do his or her part to keep it clean and tidy. Kids should help with tasks and chores they are capable of doing, and sometimes a little motivation is all that’s needed.
Household chores shouldn’t be reserved just for older children. Kids as young as two or three years of age can help with household chores. Simple jobs such as emptying wastebaskets, picking up toys, caring for pets, and throwing away trash are straightforward tasks suitable for any age. Issuing jobs when kids are young, and praising them for jobs well done will instill the importance of helping family members and working together. Feelings of accomplishment and the significance of cooperation will follow kids into adulthood. If kids don’t complete assigned chores or tasks to your specifications, don’t make up the difference or do the work for them. This certainly won’t motivate anyone. If you do, kids will only learn that someone else will make up for their shortcomings. If an assigned chore isn’t finished or completed correctly, constructively point out what has been missed, and insist that it’s done right. Motivate your kids by thanking, rewarding, and praising them for a job well done. Don’t make the mistake of assigning gender-specific jobs to kids. This isn’t fair by any means, and you certainly won’t motivate your kids with disparity. Boys as well as girls can wash dishes, and girls are capable of mowing the lawn. Equality should begin at home, so make it clear that jobs will be assigned equally, and not based on gender. take the time to show them the way you want it done. Don’t assume they’ve watched you do a specific task. Work with your kids, and go over the job step-by-step to make certain they understand.

Chore charts are organized or calendar-based lists of chores or other actions to be performed by a household member - usually the children in a family. Chore charts are also called reward chartsbehavior chartschore calendarschore lists or task lists. Generally, a chore chart is tied to allowances, allowing for better tracking of completed work and money earned as a result. (from www.chorecharts.com
In my own home I let the children pick rewards.
After a week of completed age appropriate tasks including simple things like brushing teeth the children are given the option of picking there reward or turning there weeks worth of chores completed into a star. We use stars to add up to bigger rewards like a trip to the museum or the pool. smaller rewards that the children can pick after one week are things like there one week worth of money according to age. a extra bed time story, a extra family movie night (which is something we try to do once a week) or half a hour at the park that they can save up for more time there. offering your child more options then just money really makes them feel like this is a reward smaller children might not grasp the concept of money and this lets them feel special. let your child help you to decide  what their rewards can be with in reason. my son liked the idea of going to outer space as a reward, but gave in to a extra bed time story which is something he loves at night.

Read to your children everyday! even if it is only the currant magazine that you are reading.
